Fretless Projects
These guitars were worked on following a guide at www.unfretted.com and inspired by Ron Thal, aka Bumblefoot. His website has a gear section with some hilarious conversions, and given the costs of getting a custom guitar done why not try it out? These were done on very cheap guitars in case it went wrong but it turned out well. The acoustic guitar was a cheap one an ex housemate left behind and the fish was a cheap strat copy bought from ebay for £40! Essentially, the process of defretting a guitar involves pulling the frets out, filling the gaps in and smoothing the whole thing down. Alternately you could buy a 'blank' neck and attach it to an existing guitar but this would be too much hassle for an acoustic and very risky. Both guitars were reworked and hand painted by Matt. Click on the pictures for a step by step of how they were transformed.
